Team's off to a terrific start entering the 06-07 season with a 3-0 record. Great to see how they managed to pull of back to back victories without (arguably) the best player in the NBA. Imagine defeating the Phoenix Suns with superb performances from the likes of Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, and Maurice Evans. Lamar Odom (aka Squidword) matched his career high of 34 points on opening night, shooting 12-24 from the field including 3-4 from beyond the arc. The following day, the Lakers displayed another stellar performance as they handed Golden State their first loss, pulling one on the road thanks to Squidword's 28 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and Turiaf's 23 markers. The next game featured the comeback of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant who chipped in 23 points on 8-15 shooting as they defeated the Seattle Supersonics 118-112. Odom displayed a replica of quality performance as he got it neck to neck with Rashard Lewis by scoring a team high 28 points, 7-12 fg shooting including 4-5 from downtown.

Lamar Odom. Squidword. Holy Mowly! The guy's got great talent and athletecism. I think that Kobe should cut down his scoring and let Odom operate and work himself through the post. Kobe can still score something like 27 PPG but he SHOULD allow Lamar to take something like 18-20 shots per game. The guy is 2 inches less than 7 feet and has LONG arms. The guy shoots a high percentage from the field and he could slash at will. To tell you honestly, Odom is a force to be reckoned with if he takes around 18-20 shots per game. His athletecism and speed enables him to penetrate and blow by defenders, using his unique asset of long arms to shoot layups and jump hooks at a farther distance. Plus, he is capable of pounding it in the post! The Lakers should try to run more plays giving the ball down the post to guys like Odom or Bynum, pound it hard, attract the double team and kick out the leather to the open guy who could either 1) shoot an open jimmy or 2) deceive the oponent by faking (that hopefully he bites), blow by defenders with a super slash to the basket and take the higher percentage shot. Damn, Odom should be more productive on the offensive end. He should be, knowing that Kobe has more support with the current roster thanks to the addition of Radmanovic, Evans, and the improved play of Turiaf and Andrew Bynum (I predict this guy's gonna end the season with an average of something like 10 ppg, not bad for a 19 year old sophomore). Knowing that Kobe has more support, these guys are faced with the task to remove burden from their leader (scoring wise that is). Stepping up and bringing the game to a whole new level is the name of the game. If Kobe reduces his shot attempts and allows Odom to be more involved on the offensive end, the Lakers are a force to be reckoned with.
